Job Description

The Steward plays an essential role in maintaining the cleanliness and sanitation of the kitchen and dining areas in a hotel. You will be responsible for ensuring that all kitchen utensils, dishes, and equipment are properly cleaned, sanitized, and stored. Additionally, you will assist in maintaining kitchen supplies and supporting the kitchen and F&B teams in their operations. Your role is crucial in ensuring smooth operations and a clean, safe environment for kitchen staff and guests.

  • Wash, rinse, and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and glassware used in the kitchen and dining areas.
  • Operate dishwashing machines, ensuring they are functioning properly and cleaning all items effectively.
  • Ensure that all cleaning supplies and detergents are used properly and in accordance with safety guidelines.
  • Maintain cleanliness in the kitchen, dining area, storage areas, and walk-in coolers, ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations.
  • Clean kitchen floors, walls, windows, and other surfaces to ensure a safe and hygienic work environment.
  • Clean and sanitize kitchen equipment, including ovens, grills, stoves, and refrigeration units.
  • Empty trash bins and dispose of waste according to hotel standards, ensuring waste is segregated correctly.
  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff with basic food preparation tasks, such as washing, peeling, and cutting vegetables, as needed.
  • Help in organizing and maintaining stock in the kitchen by checking inventory and assisting with deliveries.
  • Transport and store food items, cleaning materials, and kitchen supplies as required.
  • Support kitchen staff in maintaining a clean and organized work environment during meal preparation and service.
  • Ensure proper storage of cleaned dishes, utensils, and kitchen tools in the designated areas to maintain order and accessibility.
  • Monitor inventory levels of cleaning products and other supplies, and inform supervisors when restocking is needed.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries of food, beverages, and kitchen supplies, ensuring proper handling and storage conditions.
  • Ensure all food safety and sanitation regulations are adhered to, following proper procedures for cleaning and handling kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Report any safety hazards or maintenance issues to the supervisor to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Follow all hotel policies regarding hygiene standards, particularly regarding the storage, handling, and cleaning of food-related items.
  • Work closely with other stewards, kitchen staff, and the F&B team to ensure smooth operations and cleanliness throughout the hotel.
  • Assist in the setup and breakdown of dining areas or buffet stations for events or meals.
  • Maintain a positive and professional attitude when interacting with other team members and guests.
  • Assist with the setup, service, and breakdown of special events, conferences, and banquets, ensuring all equipment and tableware are cleaned and ready for use.
  • Support with clearing dishes and glassware during and after events to maintain cleanliness in dining areas.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a hotel.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
  • Knowledge of kitchen equipment, cleaning techniques, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, high-pressure environment.
  • Strong attention to detail, with a focus on cleanliness and hygiene.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at once while maintaining quality and efficiency.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to follow instructions and adhere to safety and sanitation guidelines.
