Job Description

The Steward is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the kitchen, ensuring that all kitchen equipment, utensils, and dishes are properly cleaned and stored. The Steward plays a vital role in supporting the kitchen staff by ensuring a clean, safe, and efficient working environment.

 

  • Wash, sanitize, and store dishes, pots, pans, utensils, and kitchen equipment.
  • Ensure that the kitchen, dishwashing areas, and all back-of-house areas are kept clean and organized at all times.
  • Follow proper sanitation procedures to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Assist chefs and kitchen staff by providing clean and sanitized kitchenware as needed.
  • Help with basic food preparation tasks, such as peeling, washing, and chopping ingredients, as directed by kitchen staff.
  • Ensure that trash and recycling bins are emptied regularly and disposed of properly.
  • Maintain and operate dishwashing machines and other cleaning equipment according to the manufacturer’s instructions.
  • Report any malfunctions or issues with kitchen equipment to the supervisor immediately.
  • Ensure that all cleaning supplies are stocked and organized, and notify the supervisor when supplies need to be replenished
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines, ensuring that the kitchen environment is safe for all staff.
  • Use cleaning chemicals and supplies according to safety guidelines and instructions.
  • Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) while performing cleaning tasks.
  • Organize and store kitchen equipment, utensils, and dishes in designated areas.
  • Assist in receiving and storing deliveries, ensuring proper stock rotation and storage.
  • Keep track of cleaning supplies and notify the supervisor when reordering is necessary.
  • Work collaboratively with kitchen staff and other departments to ensure smooth and efficient kitchen operations.
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and colleagues to ensure tasks are completed efficiently.
  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to a positive working environment.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • Previous experience as a Steward, Dishwasher, or in a similar role is preferred but not required.
  • Basic knowledge of sanitation and safety practices in a kitchen environment.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining high standards of cleanliness.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work as part of a team.
  • Physical ability to perform manual tasks, including lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
