Job Description

The Linen Sorter is responsible for sorting, organizing, and preparing linens and laundry items for cleaning and distribution within the hotel. This role ensures that all linens, including towels, sheets, and tablecloths, are efficiently sorted and handled to meet the hotel's standards of cleanliness and quality.

 

  • Accurately sort used linens and laundry items by type, color, and level of soiling. Ensure that all items are separated correctly to facilitate efficient cleaning and prevent cross-contamination.
  • Inspect linens for stains, damage, or special care needs before processing. Report any issues to the Laundry Supervisor or Housekeeping Manager for further action.
  • Maintain an organized and clean sorting area, ensuring that all linens are neatly stacked or hung and readily accessible for processing. Label and categorize items as needed for proper handling.
  • Monitor and manage linen inventory levels, including tracking usage and ensuring an adequate supply of clean linens. Notify the Laundry Supervisor of any discrepancies or low stock levels.
  • Prepare linens for washing by removing any non-linen items, such as personal items or debris. Follow proper procedures for handling and transferring items to the washing area.
  • Maintain accurate records of linen usage and processing, including tracking incoming and outgoing items. Ensure all records are up to date for inventory and billing purposes.
  • Adhere to all health and safety protocols related to the handling of laundry and cleaning chemicals. Ensure that all procedures are followed to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Assist with other laundry and housekeeping tasks as needed, including helping with the distribution of clean linens and covering shifts during peak periods or staff absences.

Desired Skill & Expertise

  • Previous experience in a laundry or housekeeping role is preferred. Experience in linen sorting or inventory management is a plus.
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and the ability to handle multiple tasks efficiently. Basic understanding of laundry processes and garment care is advantageous.
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 25 pounds, standing for extended periods, and moving or sorting large quantities of linens.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as required.
